Last week for part of my project I went to visit Rachel Powel - an artist who uses natural dyes to create her work. The meeting with Rachel was very inspirational and I was lucky enough to see some of her work.
The stories behind her work where so meaningful, I love how through fashion/art you are able to tell a story.
One of her pieces she done at Ormesby Hall with members of the public. Each person would choose a piece of naturally dyed fabric (which she had dyed using natural resources from around the gardens of Ormesby Hall) and tye in a memory as part of a weave piece.

The idea of creating memories that will last and are able to be shown as an art piece came from Rachel thinking about the servants and staff from Ormesby Hall who lost everything when the Hall went into bankruptcy a long time ago. She questioned why is it should we forget about the ones who made running the hall possible?
The colours would vary throughout the different seasons, the colours where very dull throughout the winter and bright throughout the summer - this was very interesting.
