Interview with junior buyer for Topshop

To gain a further understanding of the job role, I emailed Lucy Russell, a junior buyer at Topshop. I sent over a few questions and she replied ..

Lucy Russell, junior buyer - Topshop

'In a typical working day I… Review new samples on main range Topshop departments, deciding which are best for the Tall and Petite ranges – we have regular fit sessions where we fit and adapt the garments specifically for Tall and Petite. We also have design and buyers meetings where we brainstorm trends and new ideas. I try to get out and about as much as possible, for some inspirational shopping, blog research and visiting our stores.

The best thing about my job is… Getting to see all of the sketches and ideas become reality. It’s one of the best feelings when a style you’ve been involved with is a bestseller!

My advice to students hoping to crack the fashion industry would be… Aim high, always aspire to be the best with the best. The most successful people I know are happy and love what they do.'

I was much appreciative of the response and will take this information into consideration to reach my career goal.
